What is Yoga?

Yoga is a traditional discipline involving many techniques including body, breath and voice work, diet, meditation, study and reflection. In modern life it can be used to:

  • Appreciate the intimate relationship between our body, breath and mind.
  • Develop a state of attention that allows space for reflection and self-inquiry.
  • Be a therapy to support our health.

This approach helps us to make Yoga relevant to everyone. Its teaching respects differences in age, gender, mental and physical health, culture, religion and occupation.

One to one session or in specialised classes

Yoga may be used to recover or maintain, or improve our current state of health. With this we can help learn how to:

  • Cope with excessive stress or anxiety.
  • Enhance energy and productivity.
  • Reduce dependency on social and medical drugs and overeating.
  • Support sporting or outdoor activities
  • Develop a personal meditation practice.
  • Prepare for birth and post-pregnancy
  • Care for chronic disorders such as arthritis, asthma, circulatory or digestive problems, hypertension, back pain, etc.
  • Explore what it means to positively influence your own sense of well being.

General Classes

Classes are for people who wish to explore yoga postures and breathing patterns, as a beginner or continuing student. You will be able to commit to one hour's lesson over a number of weeks that will make up the short course.

The PREGNANCY Class - (max 8 people per group)

The yoga class is adapted for pregnancy, as yoga is an ideal way to maintain health during pregnancy. You will learn techniques to reduce back pain, nausea, and heartburn, enhance breathing, and learn relaxation techniques. Take time out to really nurture yourself and your unborn baby. The class can also give you the opportunity to make new friends. From 34 weeks, attend the active birth yoga to learn what you can do to help yourself and prepare for labour.

Begin practising yoga early if you are able, and it is possible to do yoga right until the birth. If you would prefer to establish a daily practice please consider individual tuition.

The POST-NATAL yoga

I recommend individual lessons for the post natal period. The practice can be specific to your needs at this time, whether there is a physical need to regain shape or sustain and maintain energy, or support you emotionally.

To discuss how this can work for you, please call me after your 6 weeks medical check-up.

Individual Tuition & Therapy

Individual lessons are available for people with specific interest or needs where the advantages of working individually would be more beneficial. Here time can be given to your direction in developing a practice appropriate to your lifestyle and interest.

Whether your need is exercise, learning posture or breathing patterns, needing a practice for meditation, or therapy or a practice tailored to your energy and aims. One to one lessons offer this possibility with time for discussing your hopes and issues around the questions of practice and what you wish to change.

A practice is designed to use at home. It can vary from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on its role and how much time the student is willing to make available. Typically, it is around 25 to 45 minutes. The teacher guides the student through the practice.
