So why counselling?

Ideally, of course, we'd have the haven of friends, family or someone outside the family/social circle we feel able to talk to. But sometimes it needs more than that, or we feel alone and isolated with the thoughts and feelings that trouble us.

And whether as adults it is the legacy of childhood issues, your past or current relationships, feelings of unhappiness or hopelessness that have no obvious reason or explanation, or you are just plain fed up and 'stuck', the process of 'unravelling' in the counselling relationship can be the kick-start to change.

During the past 17 years, I spent 10 years, initially as a volunteer counsellor, with Off The Record, and later as a group worker, trainer and supervisor. 5 years with Youth Justice/Probation/Alpha House rehab working with young people and adults with addiction/dependency as a factor in their troubled lives. 3 years with a Youth Offending Team working with the parents of young people, developing and running a parenting skills/support project. I became an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in March 1998.*

My private practice with people of all ages has run in tandem since 1994 and 75% of my work is from personal recommendation from both individuals and statutory/non statutory organisations familiar with my work.
